CCTV drainage survey set up on a commercial site with barriers – Central Scotland

Drainage defect & flooding investigations in Glasgow, Edinburgh & Central Scotland

Repeat drainage problems on commercial sites are usually symptoms of something specific: a collapsed section, a root mass, a displaced joint, a backfall, an undersized pipe, a misconnection or a grease build-up. Clearing the blockage again treats the symptom; a CCTV investigation finds the cause.

We carry out drainage investigations across Central Scotland for facilities managers, landlords and site operators, with independent reports that set out what is wrong and what is needed to fix it.

Find out more about our PAS128 utility surveys, GPR surveys, topographical surveys and drainage surveys across the UK on the main Ambler Group website.

Problems we investigate

Each investigation is planned around the symptom. We trace the affected drainage, CCTV the lengths involved, and record the defect, its position and depth so the repair can be scoped accurately and the excavation kept to a minimum.

  • Recurring blockages and slow drainage
  • Internal or external flooding and surcharging gullies
  • Drainage odours in buildings
  • Subsidence, sinking surfaces and suspected leaking drains
  • Rodent ingress through defective drainage
  • Foul and surface water misconnections

Misconnection surveys

Foul drainage connected to a surface water system – or surface water into foul – is common after extensions, conversions and change of use, and can cause pollution of watercourses or overloading of foul systems. We trace connections with CCTV and dye testing where appropriate and show every misconnection on a plan so it can be corrected.

Independent findings

Because we survey but do not carry out repairs, our findings are independent. That makes them useful where a landlord and a tenant, or neighbouring owners, need an objective view of what has failed and why.

Drainage defect & flooding investigations in Central Scotland | Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Do you clear blockages?

A: We are surveyors, not a drain-clearing firm. Where a run is silted or blocked, we jet it before surveying so the camera can pass, then report what we find and what needs doing.

Q2: Will the report show what is causing the problem?

A: Yes. The report sets out each defect, its location and depth, with photographs, footage and our recommendations.

Q3: How do you find misconnections?

A: We trace connections using CCTV and, where appropriate, dye testing from sinks, WCs and gullies, then record each connection on a plan.
